What our post-storm inspection covers
We inspect on the roof and inside the cavity, not just from the ground. On the roof we check tiles for cracks and slippage, ridge and hip capping for movement, valleys for debris and scour, flashings around chimneys, vents and skylights for lifting, and gutters and downpipes for damage and blockage. In the roof space we look for daylight, damp sarking, wet insulation and staining on the timber, which reveal breaches you can't see from outside.
We photograph what we find so you have a record, and we distinguish clearly between storm-related damage and general wear. That honesty matters whether or not you plan to claim, because it tells you what the storm actually did versus what's simply the roof's age.
The warning signs we're looking for
Key indicators include hairline cracks in tiles that will open up, capping that rocks when touched, flashings that have lifted at the edge, grit washed from mortar or tile surfaces into the gutter, and any fresh staining in the cavity. Individually these seem minor, but each is a path for water, and a storm often creates several at once. Finding them now is far cheaper than repairing a soaked ceiling later.
Your report and what to do next
You get a straightforward written summary with photos: what's sound, what needs repair now to stay watertight, and what's worth monitoring. If there's genuine storm damage, the report gives you a documented starting point for an insurance claim. If the roof came through fine, we'll tell you that too, rather than manufacturing work. Do you check inside the roof, or just on top?
