Professional Roof Cleaning in Sydney

Strip years of moss, lichen and grime and let your roof breathe again.

Roof Cleaning

A dirty roof isn't just an eyesore. Moss and lichen hold moisture against tiles, work their roots into the pointing, block valleys and gutters, and add weight your roof was never meant to carry. Roof cleaning removes all of it and gives you a clear look at the roof's real condition, which is why it's always the first step before any repair, pointing or coating work. On its own, a clean can transform kerb appeal and prevent damage getting worse.

What actually grows on Sydney roofs

Sydney's humidity and leafy suburbs feed three main culprits: moss, which forms spongy green mats in shaded, damp gullies; lichen, the crusty grey-green patches that bond hard to the surface; and black algae streaking, common on south-facing pitches. Each needs a slightly different approach, and simply blasting them off without treating the spores means they're back within a season.

We identify what's growing and why, whether it's overhanging trees, a shaded aspect or blocked drainage keeping the surface damp, so the clean actually lasts rather than being a temporary cosmetic fix.

Pressure washing versus soft washing

High-pressure cleaning is fast and effective on sound concrete tiles and metal, but too much pressure on brittle or old terracotta, or on a coated surface, causes damage. For delicate or already-restored roofs we use a lower-pressure soft wash with a biocide treatment that kills the growth at the root. Choosing the right method for your specific roof is the difference between a clean and a costly mistake.

Safety, runoff and your gutters

Roof cleaning throws a lot of debris and water around, so we protect and clear gutters and downpipes afterwards, since a clean that clogs your drainage just creates a new problem. Our crews are set up with proper roof anchors and fall protection for steep Sydney pitches, and we manage runoff responsibly rather than flushing dislodged growth straight into stormwater and garden beds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will pressure cleaning damage my roof?

It can, if the wrong pressure is used on brittle terracotta, old tiles or coated surfaces. We match the method to your roof, using high pressure only where it's safe and a lower-pressure soft wash elsewhere. Done correctly, cleaning removes growth without stripping the tile surface.

How long until the moss grows back?

A plain clean can see regrowth within a year in shaded, damp spots. Adding a biocide treatment kills the spores and holds it off much longer. Trimming overhanging trees and clearing drainage helps too, since moss needs shade and moisture to return. We'll advise on your roof's problem areas.

Is cleaning enough or do I need a full restoration?

If your tiles and pointing are sound and just dirty, a clean may be all you need. Cleaning also reveals hidden damage that grime was hiding. If we find cracked pointing, broken tiles or a worn coating underneath, we'll flag it so you can decide whether to go further.

Should I clean the roof before selling?

It's one of the highest-impact, lowest-cost things you can do for kerb appeal. A clean roof photographs far better and signals a well-maintained home to buyers. Just leave time before listing, and get any repairs the clean reveals sorted so inspections don't turn up surprises.
