Roofing scheduled around the school calendar, with student safety as the first rule.

School Roofing

Schools bring one non-negotiable to roofing: children on site. That shapes everything -- how we isolate work zones, when we schedule the loud and disruptive work, and how we keep tools, debris and vehicles away from students. Sydney schools also tend to be a patchwork of buildings from different eras: old tiled classroom blocks, mid-century flat-roofed halls, covered outdoor learning areas and demountables, each with its own roofing quirks. We plan the whole program around term dates and safety.

Scheduling around the school calendar

The best time to re-roof a school building is when the students aren't there, so we plan major works for term breaks and school holidays and reserve out-of-hours work for anything disruptive during term. For urgent leaks that can't wait, we isolate and hoard the affected classroom or block so learning continues elsewhere while we work safely.

We work in with the school's facilities staff and, on public schools, the relevant departmental requirements, so the program fits the calendar and the approvals process rather than fighting it.

Safety with children on site

When work has to happen during term, exclusion is everything. We fully hoard and separate the work zone from playgrounds and walkways, keep site vehicles away from pick-up and drop-off times, secure all tools and materials, and use debris netting so nothing can fall into an area a child might reach. Our crews on school sites work to the site's child-safety expectations as well as the usual height-safety standards.

Anchor points and edge protection go up before anyone gets on the roof, and access ladders are never left where a curious student could climb them.

Mixed building stock across a campus

A single school might have terracotta-tiled classrooms from the 1950s, a flat membrane-roofed hall, metal-deck covered outdoor learning areas and demountable classrooms -- all ageing at different rates. We assess each building on its own terms and give the school a prioritised program, so the budget goes to the buildings that need it most first, rather than a blanket approach that wastes money on roofs that are still sound.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do the work during the holidays?

That's our preference for anything major. We plan re-roofing and disruptive works for term breaks and school holidays so students aren't on site. For urgent leaks during term, we hoard and isolate the affected block and keep the rest of the school running safely around us.

How do you keep students safe if you must work during term?

We fully separate and hoard the work zone from playgrounds and walkways, use debris netting so nothing can fall into reach, secure every tool and ladder, and keep our vehicles clear of drop-off and pick-up times. Height safety and the school's child-safety expectations both apply.

Our school has lots of different buildings -- can you do them all?

Yes. Most Sydney campuses mix tiled classrooms, flat-roofed halls, covered outdoor areas and demountables, all ageing differently. We assess each building separately and give you a prioritised program so the budget goes to what needs it most, not a one-size-fits-all re-roof.

Do you work with the Education Department's requirements?

On public schools we work within the relevant departmental processes and the school's facilities requirements so the works fit the approvals and calendar without delays.
