After a major storm, insurers can be flooded with claims across the whole city. Understanding the process ahead of time puts you in a much stronger position.
What Counts as Storm Damage
Most policies cover sudden, identifiable events -- wind, hail, falling debris, and similar. They typically exclude gradual wear and tear, which is why documentation and timing matter so much.
Building a Strong Claim
- Photograph damage as soon as it's safe to do so, including wide shots for context
- Keep receipts for any emergency make-safe work, such as tarping
- Get a written, itemised assessment report from a licensed roofer
- Note the date and approximate time of the storm event
- Avoid starting permanent repairs before the assessor has reviewed the damage, where possible
Working With Assessors
Insurance assessors are looking for clear evidence linking the damage to a specific weather event. A detailed trade report that separates storm-caused damage from pre-existing wear significantly speeds up approval.
Where We Fit In
We regularly work directly with insurance assessors on storm claims across Sydney. Our reports are formatted to the standard insurers expect, and we can attend joint inspections if required.
