Your roof is one of the most expensive parts of your home to fix, which unfortunately makes it a target for unlicensed operators and door-knockers after a storm. Here's how to make sure you're hiring someone genuine.
1. Are You Fully Licensed and Insured?
Ask for their licence number and confirm it's valid for the type of work you need. Also confirm they carry public liability insurance -- this protects you if something goes wrong on your property.
2. Can I See Recent Local Work?
A genuine local operator should be able to point to recent jobs in your area, and ideally provide references you can actually call.
3. Is the Quote Detailed and In Writing?
Be cautious of vague, verbal quotes. A proper quote should break down materials, labour, and scope of work clearly, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
4. What Warranty Do You Offer?
Ask specifically about workmanship warranty, separate from any manufacturer warranty on materials. A contractor confident in their work will stand behind it in writing.
5. Who Will Actually Be Doing the Work?
Some larger companies subcontract out jobs to whoever is available. Ask whether the crew on your roof will be direct employees or subcontractors, and what quality control is in place either way.
We're a family-owned local crew -- happy to answer every one of these questions before you commit to anything.
