Blocked Gutter Clearing in Sydney
We clear the blockage and tell you why it keeps coming back.

A blocked gutter is more than an annoyance — water backing up over the edge finds its way into eaves, walls and ceilings, and in a bushfire zone a gutter full of dry leaf litter is a genuine fire risk. We clear the whole system, including the downpipe throats where the real blockage often hides, and tell you honestly whether leaf guard or an extra outlet would stop it happening again.
Where blockages actually build up
Leaves and windblown debris are the obvious culprit, but the blockage that causes overflow is usually at the downpipe outlet, where debris packs into the throat and stops the water leaving. Over time that debris breaks down into a heavy black sludge that holds water and rusts the gutter base. We clear the full run and, critically, flush the outlets and downpipes rather than just scooping the surface leaves.
Sydney's mix of gum trees, jacarandas and paperbarks drops fine litter that packs down tighter than big leaves, so gutters that look clear from the ground are often half full of compacted muck.
The risks of leaving it blocked
Standing water in a blocked gutter rusts the base from the inside, breeds mosquitoes, and overflows into the eaves and wall cavity in every storm. In a bushfire-prone area, dry litter in the gutters is one of the first things to ignite from ember attack. Clearing them is cheap compared with the damage a season of overflow can cause.
Stopping it from happening again
If you're cleaning gutters two or three times a year, there's usually a reason worth fixing — overhanging trees, undersized outlets, or an open profile that catches everything. We'll be straight with you about whether leaf guard is worth it for your situation, or whether a good clean once a year is genuinely all you need. We don't push guards on homes that don't need them.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my gutters cleared in Sydney?
Most homes need it once a year, ideally before storm season. If you have overhanging gum trees or lots of surrounding bush, twice a year is safer. If you're in a bushfire-prone area, keeping them clear through the fire season matters even more for ember protection.
My gutters overflow but they look clean — what's blocking them?
The blockage is usually down in the downpipe outlet, not along the gutter where you can see it. Compacted debris packs into the throat and stops water leaving even when the surface looks clear. We flush the outlets and downpipes, which is where surface-only cleaning misses the real problem.
Can blocked gutters cause a leak inside my ceiling?
Yes. When a gutter overflows over its rear edge, that water runs into the eaves and wall cavity and can stain ceilings and rot timber. A ceiling leak that only appears in heavy rain is very often an overflowing, blocked gutter rather than a roof hole.
Do I need leaf guard, or is regular cleaning enough?
It depends on your trees. If you're clearing gutters three times a year because of constant leaf drop, guard can pay for itself. If it's once a year, regular cleaning is usually cheaper and simpler. We'll give you the honest answer for your place, not a sales pitch.
